Said to be the oldest delicatessen in London, first opened in 1878. Next to St Peter’s church first consecrated in 1863 and a beacon to Catholics as the only basilica style church in the UK. The Napoleonic wars destroyed much of the agriculture in northern Italy. Many fled to Clerkenwell and set up schools and businesses. Luigi Terroni made this delicatessen something of a local institution which was carried on by his family until 1983. The original closed in 2003 but has been revived by the Anessa family in 2012 who follow the same principles. Ice cream first employed nearly half the Italian population in the 1900s and is a feature, the wine selection has been added to over the years. There is a pizza and pasta offer at lunch for local workers in Hatton Garden. It all gets a bit of a crush but there are good things…olive oil, obviously, pasta, obviously, primitivo, obviously, parma ham, you know the team sheet.
