Notting Hill Farmers Market

When Saturday comes around

Notting Hill Farmers Market

Notting Hill Farmers market feels more buttoned up, smarter, everything stacked neatly in boxes around the Fox primary school whose playground it occupies behind the cinema on Saturday. The headmistress might have had a word.

Not as primal as some of the other markets. There are two fishmongers – both from their own boats –  Dorset Shellfish is a cooperative from Mudeford and often have Poole oysters and crabs and lobsters. While Mark Haggis has a small boat the True To The Core which fishes off the Essex estuary. Bagnal Farm brings meat up from Somerset with Red Ruby Devon Cattle, pork from a herd of ‘Iron Age Pigs’ (really – ed) and lamb are Jacob Sheep. Nick Booth also a special line in Scotch eggs. Also from Somerset is Hurdlebrook dairy farm with butter and yoghurts from their herd of Guernseys. Brambletye, Chegworth and Ted provide the vegetable displays.
