Landmark market settles like a wagon train around Tardis swank of glass

Marylebone farmers market

Marylebone always felt like the seminal Sunday farmers market, it is one of the flagship of now 21 markets across London, although the first was actually Islington set up by an American Nina Plank (now on Chapel market on Sundays) where produce should be from within 100 miles of the capital. In total there are said to be more than 200 markets across the country.  Marylebone began in the concrete dell of a bombed out car park but now has to settle like some wagon train around the Tardis swank of a glass development called Marylebone Square. It hangs on to the anchors of the like minded retailers in  the Ginger Pig and La Fromagerie on its fringe along Monxton Street. Many of the founding stalls like the Potato man, Chegworth, FiveWays hang on while the drift, this being Marylebone more of a surge, is towards ready-to go-coffee or a sausage sandwich or even a gozlemi,  (using produce from the market ). Notable regulars are Charlie’s Trout, Hollis Mead with excellent butter and cream from Dorset, Midgham farm for meat from Hampshire, plus new wavers with products like like Exmoor caviar, vermouth, birchwood, pollen and, of course, macaroons.
