High class retailers of fine food, so declares the logo which might seem like so much marketing speak but the Martyn family has been here in Muswell Hill for four generations. Since 1897. Martyn’s might be a museum piece, but behind the old world imagery there is the smell of fresh coffee roasting, ground to order which points to an enterprising own label, local business of teas, hampers, fudge and empire staples. A choice of coffees from Ethiopia to Costa Rica. So too a range of teas, chocolates from Venezuela and Ecuador in fact it has more than a passing resemblance to a small Fortnum and Mason. There is even a £25 tea time hamper with their own shortbread and jams. Heroic.
