Maltby Street

Weekend grazing brunch

Maltby Street

Maltby Street started back in 2010. It was a bunch of old railway arches that seeded some fledgling food businesses in the demoralised wasteland beyond Tower Brudge. The adjacent Ropewalk, now decorated lavishly with flags and some old carts for benches is no longer a produce market but a street-eatery as you can guess from the some of the names: Duck Frites, The Beef Steaks, Amen Ethiopian, Crepes a la Carte, Calamaris Canteen, Gyoza Guys, plus coffee and croissants for sure.

It is fun but it is not primary. If you live in tower block, two bedroom flats with tiny kitchens, you need to get out and eat, especially at the weekend. Brunch de rigeur.

The street names of Leathermarket and Tanner street point to another history altogether. It is a good foodie walk parallel to the river from Borough market to more restaurants on Bermondsay Street to here at the weekend but you probably don’t need a shopping bag at this end.
