Caliendos

The Italian job with radical flavours

Caliendos

The Caliendo family arrived from Naples in the 1880s and sold gelato around the little Italy that was Clerkenwell before they moved to Kentish Town (next door to Phoenicia and opposite excellent book shop The Owl). Michelina and Fiona first opened this shop cum parlour here in 2019 and have picked up a string of trade awards. The real Italian job they call it and in the back is a red Austin mini which is a parallel enthusiasm. Everything is made daily but what stands out is there bravery with flavours – seabuckthorn and ginger, blackcurrant and liquorice, even Toblerone, even mushroom coffee. Not to mention fig and walnut or the sugar free grapefruit.. They like to stretch the envelope which should not overshadow their more obvious lines like vanilla which are equally good. Cakes to order. They also have an Illy crema machine for a hybrid slush of coffee and ice cream. Delivery within two miles of NW5.
