Idilio Badiani opened his first gelateria, patisserie and coffee shop in Florence in the 1960s but had been making ice cream since 1932. The business was taken over by the Pomposi family in 1993. Orazio Pomposi was also a rival noted ice cream specialist in Florence who had his own shop since 1960. It is still run by his family.
