It is not really a little Manila but there are two standout Filipino operations on this end of Kentish Town high street nearest to Camden Market. There is the bakery Panadera and this pioneering parlour that waves a flag for south sea flavours like purple yam, black coconut and malt milk…in a cone or a wafer sandwich. Ice cream. They call this dirty ice cream, a term from Manila. There may also be a traditional Halo Halo, known as a mix and mix, mash up, or the unofficial Philippines national desert, a variation may arrive as coconut strings, red bean, jellies, evaporated milk, shaved ice, leche flan, a wafer stick and topped with a scoop of ube ice cream along with some Oreo crumbs and cornflakes.
